A Quick stop at Abergavenny this morning a look at the town including its war memorial then on to some industrial heritage.
Back in the early 1970’s I visit the site of Blaenavon Iron work a neglected site ruins which resembled a old bomb site, overgrown and abandoned apart from fly tippers. Today Wales has recognised its industrial heritage as voluble as its Castle, Blaenavon is now a World Heritage site many of the buildings restored and interpretations set up to explain to the visitor is importance and how it’s history dates back to the 1770’s.These blend well unlike many other sites where electronics take over for what often seems not reason except to spend public funding. Here in the cast house a light show replicates molten iron pouring from the furnace to great effect.(only installed a few months ago).A fantastic blend of new technology with original history.
A couple of miles up the road is Big Pit the welsh mining museum which includes a underground tour and other exhibits which include locker room and bath house.
Both this museum as funded by the Welsh Government and apart from £3 to park at Pig Pit are free of charge.
