DUNNET HEAD is further North than John O Groats.

Day 4.

Image

Kestrel  watching from the van before setting off from Dunnet Bay Campsite   (just West of John O Groats) back tracking a few miles up to Dunnet Head which is a beautiful spot with sea cliffs and RSPB site Artic Skuas spotted Lighthouse nicer built by Stephenson in the 1880s –now up for sale. Now heading West along the top of Scotland. Quick stop at Thurso to take on supplies. Photos at Dounreay warnings of armed Police so quickly on. Down to Sandside Bay and harbour warnings about radioactive particles so no seashells here, hope my hair does not fall out.

Coast  Line starting to change higher cliffs and whiter sands where the road cuts away from the sea Mountains and peat bogs predominate. Red Deer spotted. Down below Cape Wrath finding a basic campsite overlooking Kinlochbervie harbour. Small site only people here. Steps down to cove. Skull of a Great black backed gull found and Ring Plover nest.
